Our forbearers fought fascism and authoritarian thugs in Europe and Asia. And some of them paid a heavy price in service of liberty, justice, and democracy. For this? This is a shameful betrayal of all we purport to stand for. Alas, it was also predictable: xenophobia, racism, and now sedition.
We must fight authoritarians and fascists wherever we find them. And we must prosecute, to the fullest extent of the law, those who'd provoke a seditious act to subvert our democracy.
We'd really love to talk about Abruzzo, pasta, and house-made sausage. But with our republic and soul at stake, we need to focus on other issues. We are citizens first and our duties are clear.
Apparently, it's safer to be a armed white person storming the capitol building in order to overthrow a democratic election and subvert the will of the people than to be a black guy leaving your garage with a cell phone. We've got a long road ahead of us.
